Common Core State Standards
A Parent’s Guide to Student Success
Dear Parents,
We want you to be well informed on the new Common Core Standards which are being implemented in NC during the 2012-13 school year. These Standards are consistent expectations for all students across the nation. For example, if a student from Bald Creek Elementary School moves to California, the transition into a new school should be much easier for everyone. BCES students should find their new school working on the same skills they were here. This is truly a great concept. These standards describe what students are supposed to know in grades K-12. They define the Reading, Writing and Math skills needed at each grade level. They build on each other each year, with High School graduation, attending college and successfully entering the work force being the ultimate goal. Parents, this is your guide to what students need to know in
this competitive, 21st Century, global economy. End of grade testing will continue. Although, it will be in a slightly different format. Please take some time to read about these Standards for your child’s grade level at the link below. Feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher for more information. Thank you for supporting our efforts in providing our students with an excellent education.
Best Regards,
Ms. Sherry F. Robinson
